Raksha Bandhan Mantra chanted while tying Rakhi on the hand
of brothers is dedicated to the famous incident mentioned in the Puranas in
which Goddess Lakshmi tied the Rakhi on the hand of King Bali. This prayer was
first chanted on the advice of Guru Brihaspati to help Devraj Indra win the war
over Asuras.
The popular belief is that the mantra gives the strength to
brothers to protect their sisters.
The mantra is chanted by sisters.
