Chikka Tirupathi Temple, located near Bangalore
in Karnataka, is dedicated to Prasanna Venkataramana Swamy and is considered as
an alternative to the world famous Tirupathi
Temple in Andhra Pradesh.
The main murti in the temple was installed by Agni – the god of fire. The murti worshiped here is also known as Varadaraja.
The main murti worshipped in the temple is nearly three and
half feet and is made of Krishna Shila. The murti stands on a lotus-shaped
pedestal. At Chikka Tirupathi, the murti of Balaji is standing with his consort
Sridevi and Bhudevi, and there is no separate shrine for Goddess Padmavati.
All the important rituals held in Balaji Temples are
followed here including the tonsuring of head.
The annual festival of the temple witnesses the making of a
seventy-feet tall wooden chariot.
The most important festivals observed in the temple include
Navaratri and Vaikunta Ekadasi.
The belief is that visiting Chikka
Tirupathi Temple
is equal to visiting Tirupati
Balaji Temple .
